NYX Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator

I have wanted to try NYX's Liquid Illuminator for the longest time and I recently mentioned it in my Makeup Wish List post. I've only ever tried powder or cream highlighters, so I was interested to find out what liquid illuminators are like. NYX are such an amazing brand and their products never disappoint me, so I really wanted to purchase the illuminator. After reading a load of positive reviews, I ordered one. I was so excited for this to arrive and I'm beyond happy that I finally own it. In the past month or so that I've had it, I've been using it nonstop.

Product description on NYX's website: Enjoy a luminous, lit-from-within glow all year long with our luxuriously lightweight Liquid Illuminator. Now available in four light-catching shades, this multifunctional formula can be used as a foundation base or over cheekbones, décolletage and cupids bow for a natural-looking radiance that'll have everyone talking.

I have the shade Sunbeam. I had seen a few YouTubers use Sunbeam and it looked like a really pretty shade. After Googling photos of the liquid illuminators available, I knew that Sunbeam was the one I liked the most. I've seen the liquid illuminator be called a 'drugstore dupe' for Benefit's High Beam highlighter, which is something that I used to want before I knew NYX existed.

The packaging is a peachy/pale pink tube with a black cap. To get the product out, you have to squeeze the tube slightly. The right amount seems to come out and I apply this onto the back of my hand first. Sunbeam is a pale pink with silver sparkles in. It goes on lighter once you apply it and blend it in. Before I apply the illuminator, from the back of my hand to my face, either with my fingers or blend. When I apply it on my cupids bow, inner corner of my eyes or brow bone, I use a fine liner brush by Real Technique's.

I really like the formula of this, it's a lightweight cream and isn't heavy, greasy or runny. This illuminator glides on smoothly and blends in easily. Sunbeam is a beautiful shade and is very shimmery. I only use a little bit, as a little bit really does go a long way. Once you've applied the illuminator, it dries very quickly and it isn't going anywhere. In a way, it's good because you know that it wont budge, but it means you have to blend it in very quickly.

When I first used this, I applied it over powder and I didn't really like how it looked. It went patchy. Every time I use this now, I use it over foundation and concealer and under powder and I prefer that. It might have gone patchy and weird because of the powder I use. I apply a little bit and then build it up if I need to because I don't want to overdo it. I apply it above my cheekbones, bridge of my nose and brow bone. You can apply a powder highlighter over it if you want. I personally don't because I prefer what it looks like on it's own.

There are four shades available, which are: Gleam, Sunbeam, Pure Gold and Sun Goddess. It lasts around 7-8 hours. Overall I love this illuminator. I bought this from Boots online (there's still sadly no NYX counter near me) for £7!

Pros:

  • It's affordable
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Buildable
  • Lasts a long time and doesn't budge
  • A little goes a long way
  • Gives a nice, dewy glow

Cons:
  • None. I love it.

Have you tried this illuminator? Do you like liquid illuminators?
