Trying Poundland makeup | my first impressions

A few weeks ago I decided to pick up two products from Poundland's beauty brand, Makeup Gallery. I don't know why I never looked into it before, but I found out that Makeup Gallery isn't tested on animals. I planned to get a couple of products first to write a blogpost/film a YouTube video on it. Up until I was stood in front of the products, I had no idea what I wanted to try. I only got two products when I went but I am planning on getting some more when I'm next nearby. The two products I got are a lipgloss and an eyeshadow stick. I have absolutely no idea what either of these are called as they don't have shade names.

Firstly I'm going to talk about the lipgloss. After getting my NYX Butter Gloss last year, all I want to wear is lipgloss. I tried to get a shade fairly close to the NYX 'Madeleine' Butter Gloss, but this lipgloss is more pink than I anticipated and it looked more different in the shop light. I do like the shade and I know a lipstick/makeup look I want to wear with this, so I'm looking forward to trying that.

The lipgloss has a doe-foot applicator and it applies nicely. I didn't find to gloss to be sticky whatsoever when applying, nor once applied. One thing I'm very impressed with is how moisturising it is. This lasted for around a few hours until I drank and then it completely came off. I've had the same problem with my NYX lipstick, so I didn't find it disappointing because I was kind of expecting it.

Next up is the eyeshadow stick. I've never tried an eyeshadow stick so I was rather excited to see this in the shop. I picked up the shade closest to ones I'd wear and when I applied this, I realised it looks exactly like a couple of other shades I already own, but in stick form. I do love this shade. Applying this was easy and quick, with very little tugging and pulling. I swatched it after applying and I realised that its more pigmented when swatching than it is on.

After applying it is when it went downhill. I tried to apply eyeliner over it and it wouldn't apply easy at all. The eyeshadow turned oily and I was struggling to apply a neat, dark line over it. I don't have oily skin, so I knew it was 100% the eyeshadow. After an hour, my eyeliner was transferring and my eyeliner never does that. After around three hours, the eyeshadow had practically disappeared. Its a shame that happened because its a lovely shade. I don't know if I'll ever use this eyeshadow stick again.

I do want to try more Poundland makeup because I am interested in what their other products are like. I won't be getting more of their eyeshadow sticks again, but I think they have other eyeshadow products.

Have you ever tried anything from Makeup Gallery?

  1. I had no idea that Poundland sold makeup. It's fab that it's cruelty free!

    1. I'm starting to prefer glossy lips over matte lips. I agree, it doesn't feel super cheap either!
