My piercings | stories & experiences

Piercings are something that I used to be addicted to getting. I would always watch so many YouTube videos of people talking about their piercings. At one point I had a rather long list of piercings I wanted to get. Since I very rarely/never speak about my piercings, I thought it would be different to write a post on them.

I currently have 12 piercings and my long list I once had, has now gone down to 2 or 3. I haven't had a new piercing in almost 4 years and I don't think I'd be able to get one anytime soon due to my fear of needles, that has skyrocketed in the past 3 years. Needles have always terrified me and when I got all of these piercings I used to feel sick and lightheaded, it just wasn't as extreme as now.

First & second lobes
The first piercings I got were my first lobe piercings. I got these when I was around 8 years old. I remember getting them pierced and I loved them. I had all sorts of pretty earrings, but my first lobe piercings didn't last very long. A few months after getting them pierced, I had changed them to some tiny earrings. It was fine up until I woke up one morning and the back of one of my earrings as actually stuck in my ear. I think they're called butterfly backs (?), but they were the teeny tiny ones. I had to go to the hospital to have it removed. It put me off small backs for life and I've never used them since. I got them re-pierced again when I was 9 and I've never had any problems with them.

When I was 13, I woke up one day wanting my seconds pierced, so I pierced them myself. It didn't hurt as badly as I thought it would've done, but I was determined to pierce them. I remember it taking me a while, but I did it and I love them.

Belly Button
I got my belly button pierced when I was 14, after wanting it done for a while. I remember being very nervous to get this pierced because I'd only had my ears pierced. I got this done at a tattoo/piercing shop nearby me and it was the first tattoo/piercing shop I'd ever stepped foot in. The piercer numbed my belly button and I didn't feel a thing... well, obviously. It was numbed. My belly button piercing is still one of my favourites. I just don't have it on show, nor did I want to take photos for this blogpost because I'm not comfortable with how my stomach looks at the moment... so here's an old photos from 2013.

Top cartilage/helix
The cartilage/helix piercing is one I had wanted for a while, so I went to a tattoo/piercing shop that I'd heard good things about. I was super scared about getting this piercing because it was on a weird part of my ear that I'd never had pierced before. At the time, none of my friends had any piercings besides their lobes/belly button, so I didn't have anyone to ask about it. Honestly, this barely hurt. It was uncomfortable and rather sore afterwards, but during getting it pierced, it didn't hurt. I was 15 when I got this and I've had it done for 5 years and I've never had any problems with it. Its still one of my favourite piercings.

Third lobe
You know Kylie Jenner had all of those piercings going up her ear? Not long after she got them done, I desperately wanted it done. I thought they were so pretty. Soo, a few months after getting my cartilage pierced, I started the rest. I only got a third lobe piercing on one ear because I knew I was going to get piercings all the way up that ear. Also, I only got one because it was the same price as a cartilage piercing because its classed as a cartilage piercing. I remember this being painless. Because the thirds are classed as a cartilage piercing, they used a needle instead of a piercing gun, which I prefer.

Fourth, fifth & sixth cartilage
My fourth and fifth cartilage piercings were the same as my first cartilage piercings. The first time I got my sixth cartilage piercing was a disaster. I went to a different piercing shop for this one and I'd never been there before, but I had heard good things about it. My experience just wasn't the best. I went in and it was a nice place and it smelt very clean, so that was a positive. The only thing was that the piercer put a tiny bar in my cartilage and it was very painful. The other piercing shops were very careful and knew what size bar to put in my cartilage. This guy seemed to have no clue.

A day later I was sat in my GCSE Art exam and had realised the ball had come off and the bar just fell out. After going home to try and put another earring in, nothing worked so I gave up. A week or so later, I went back to the original place where I'd had my others done and it was fine. Thats why theres a gap between the sixth and seventh piercing because I didn't want to get it re-pierced so quickly where I had it pierced before.

Anyway, I learnt my lesson and never went back to that place. Those are my cartilage piercings. I've had these done since 2013 and I'm still obsessed with them. I've changed all of them, except the fourth because I cannot seem to undo the bar.

Tragus
I was 16 when I got my tragus pierced and I was more worried about this piercing than others because people said "you can hear it pop" (???) and I heard that it really hurt. Everyones pain level and experiences are different, so I just stopped worrying about what other people said about their experiences. Turns out, I got worried for nothing. It hurt the smallest bit when getting it done and it was done so quick. I didn't hear it pop and honestly, the next night I slept on that ear and it didn't hurt.

Rook
The last piercing I got was my rook and I was 17 when I got this piercing. I went to a different place as people I knew recommended it and I was closer to this shop than the other one I usually went to. After my experience with the other piercing shop I mentioned earlier, I was a little worried, but it was absolutely fine.

I was so scared about this piercing because of where it is. They numbed it so I didn't feel a thing and when I was getting it done, I was more focused and concerned about the spider pretty close to my face on the wall. That was a good, but also a not so good distraction because I hate spiders. I didn't really feel a thing, but it was numbed. It was a little uncomfortable as I guess it was a bit of an awkward place. I can't imagine how difficult it must be trying to pierce a rook. It was sore for the rest of the day, but the next day I was able to sleep on that ear again. This is my favourite piercing that I have.

And thats my veryyyy long post about my piercings, stories and experiences. I haven't had a piercing since I was 17 (I'm now 20) and I don't think I'll be getting some more anytime soon. After many, many horrible blood tests and problems with that, needles terrify me a lot more now than they ever have done.

Do you have any piercings? If so, what are they?

Disclaimer: everyones pain level is different. I feel like I can tolerate pain pretty well.

  1. I love piercings too, they are so addictive aren't they? I only have 5 now, all lobe. I use to have a belly button one and a smiley piercing (really recommend even if you're nervous about needles, it doesn't hurt at all!).
    Lovely post xxxx

  4. I've got three lobe piercings in one ear and two in the other (I had my third hole done twice in that ear and it got infected both times annoyingly). I also had my nose done, but it's closed up, I'd love to do it again though! I went through a phase of wanting loads too, but I'm not so obsessed anymore
