mylee gel kit | + how to  use + remove

Doing my nails is something I've loved doing since I was a child and I would have those nail polishes for kids. Having freshly painted nails just makes me feel happier. I cannot stand not having nail polish on and it's very rare for me to not have it on. Ever since I was 11/12 I've painted my nails every few days and it's a pet peeve of mine just how quickly they would chip and my nails would split and just end up looking messy.

I've always wanted a lamp to do gel nails with. I had never had gel nails but always saw pictures of them and loved how they looked. For Christmas, my boyfriend surprised me with the Mylee Gel Nail Kit (unaware of how long I've wanted one. He knows me so well). Since Christmas Day, I've only been wearing gel nails and I absolutely love it. 

the set

The set comes with all the essentials. It contains the nail lamp, 3 different plugs for different countries, a pack of 100 lint free wipes, a base coat, a top coat, 4 gel nails polishes, nail Prep & Prime and a gel remover.

Gel polishes

The nail polishes are very pigmented and pretty. Depending on how thin/thick the layer I apply is, depends on how many layers I use. I really love all 4 of these colours and I'm really impressed with them. The 4 colours that come in the kit are:

- Requiem For A Pink, which is a pink with a red undertone

- Diva, which is a class dark elegant red

- Pastel Chic, which is a delicate nude/pastel pink

- Soft Touch, which is a true mauve nude

The lamp

The Mylee Pro Convex LED Nail Curing Lamp cures gel as fast as 15, 30 or 60 seconds and has a 50,000 hour lifespan. This lamp is perfect for professionals and at home users, whether you're a beginner or not. It's very easy to use and has the 15, 30 or 60 second buttons at the back!

Base and top coat

The base coat protects your natural nails and provides a strong and long lasting base. 

The top coat helps to protect your nails from chipping, scratching and gives a glossy finish.

Prep & Prime and Gel remover

Using the lint free wipes, the Prep & Prime cleans the nail plate before using the base coat and wipes the tacky layer after using the top coat.

Lint free wipes

Unlike cotton pads, the lint free wipes have no fuzzy bits of lint that can get stuck to your nails.

how to do

Using this kit, doing gel nails is so easy and quick to do. After getting my nails ready (which I'll explain in a future post), this is how you get those glossy gel nails:

1. Prep your nails with the nail Prep & Prime polish using the lint free wipes.

2. Use the base coat and cure for 30-60 seconds

3. Use the gel polish and cure for 30-60 seconds

4. Repeat number 3 after you're happy with how it looks

5. Add the top coat and cure for 30-60 seconds

6. To finish, use the Prep & Prime polish again to remove the tackiness of the top coat

and voilà. Curing does depend on the application and thickness of layers, however I usually do it for 60 seconds and only use 2 layers of the nail polish.

how to remove

1. Buff the surface of your nails with a nail file to remove the shine of the top coat. This must be done firmly

2. Soak a lint free wipe with the Gel Remover and place onto the nail using a foil wrap

3. After 10-15 minutes, pull the pads/foil wraps off the nails. If there is any loose product, gently push it away with a cuticle pusher

(If there is any product left on the nail, re-buff and re-wrap)

4. Once the product is removed, apply cuticle oil and hand cream to hydrate your nails

Overall I am so so happy with my Mylee Gel Kit. I absolutely love how easy and quick it is and how nice and glossy they turn out. My nails actually feel stronger and haven't split at all since using it. My nails don't chip nor scratch and the gel can last up to 14 days. The longest I've had mine on for is 13 days before I decided I wanted to change the colour. I had absolutely no problems with it chipping. They still looked fresh.

I never want to use regular nail polish again and I can't wait to get some more colours to add to my new gel collection. Mylee have hundreds of beautiful gels, there's so much to choose from and I've added a load to my wish list!

This is such a clever technique to do nails and also a very helpful one. I'm a beginner in gel nails and it's so easy to do. I was amazed at just how simple it was. I've also done my toenails too and I love how they look also.
